When you wake up at 3:00 with that unstopable need to relieve yourself, you have two choices: cross your legs and get no sleep for the rest of the night, or relieve yourself. The choice sounds easy, but when the temperature dips outside, and you're warm and cozy in your bag, it can be tempting to try to hold it. It's times like this that a pee bottle, also know as a nasty bottle, can be a lifesaver. With a little practice, you can relieve yourself with little more effort than rolling over. Once you finish, take a moment to reach outside and dump it on the ground. (Make sure the ground is sloped away from you!) By emptying it, you prevent it from freezing and breaking the bottle. I recommend the white PTFE Nalgene bottles. They are cheap, can easily be marked (Mark them well!), and cary Nalgene's lifetime replacement warranty.
